CPC Walkathon Draws Thousands

The Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. Walkathon & Family Day showcases diverse cultures and social service needs of New York City's three largest Chinese-American communities: the Lower East Side, Manhattan; Sunset Park, Brooklyn and Flushing, Queens.

CPC Workforce Development Division serves 2,500 job seekers and ESL students each year.  Education is a priority for this organization.  This year's theme is "One Community.  One Goal.  Walk For Our Future."

Berkeley students and staff gathered in Columbus Park in Chinatown and walked the Brooklyn Bridge for this cause on Sunday, July 22, 2012.  Twenty-nine Students and seventeen Associates from the New York, Brooklyn and Westchester campuses joined together to walk for this important cause. All three NY State Campus Operating Officers were in attendance as well as Board of Trustees member Jose Tavares who spearheaded this important community initiative. Dr. Vinita Ittoop of Director of the Center for Global Studies was also in attendance.

The event was captured in amazing detail by VIA photographer Donna Nicholson and Social Media Director Angie Welchert. At the halfway point, students posed for photos with local celebrities, Marty "Mr. Brooklyn" Markowitz and Ronald McDonald. After the walk, The Campus Operations Office of NYC treated all attendees to a delicious lunch at Amazing 66 in Chinatown.

Afterwards, a select group of students were treated to a local Chinese Opera courtesy of community partner Dewey Fong.
